Abstract
Really Dead is an experimental vampire trance film. Shot of 16mm film, the images were created by Dan Dinello and edited by Chicago experimental filmmaker Sharon Sandusky. The soundtrack music was created by Mindaugas Maculis. The soundtrack also samples Bela Lugosi from the 1931 vampire movie Dracula. Called an “eerie little tone poem” by the Chicago Reader, the set, make-up and costumes were designed to visually evoke the style of German Expressionist silent films. The film features the actors George Black and David Stowell from the Chicago band Stations.
Really Dead premiered at Chicago Filmmakers and played at festivals all over the United States including the 30th Ann Arbor Fest, the Illinois Film and Video Festival, the Athens International Film Festival, 1992, Anthology Film Archives, Eastern Illinois University, Viper 92 International Film and Video Festival (Luzern, Switzerland) as well as WTTW's Image Union.
It won Best Experimental Film at the Illinois Film and Video Festival, 1992.
Partial funding for the film derived from a Columbia College Faculty Development Award.
