Abstract
Footage features murals in Little Village, Pilsen, West Town, and Humboldt Park, which were newly created at the time by local artists.
Description
One mural depicts Ramón Emeterio Betances, who was a Puerto Rican independence advocate and medical doctor. There are a few murals that were commissioned with support from the Chicano Mural Group Chicago, and the Chicago Public Art Group. An elaborate mosaic mural created in 1980 is signed by artists Lynn Takata, Jose Guerrero, and John Pitman Weber.
Other locations featured include: Restaurant Gaby at W. 25th Street and S. St. Louis Ave at 1:02; the Little Village Arch at 3100 W. 26th Street at 1:55; the exterior of the Benito Juarez High School (now the Benito Juarez Community Academy) located at 2150 S. Laflin St., in Pilsen at 2:20; La Nueva Puerto Rico Corner Store at 2559 W. Augusta Blvd at 7:27; the Carnicerias Jimenez grocery store at 10:50; Happy's Place food cart at 13:37; and the Center for Neighborhood Technology at 2125 W. North Ave at 15:09.
