Abstract
Loosely assembled footage includes the following: A man wearing a tropical shirt and a red, “JESUS” ballcap waves his hands and whistles toward the sky as New Orleans’ Superdome can be seen in the background; Vice President George H.W. Bush greets supporters at a rally on New Orleans’ Mississippi Riverwalk just after arriving via the Steamboat Natchez on August 16, 1988; Governor Michael Dukakis departs from a campaign event held at Drake University’s Olmsted Center in Des Moines; Phone bank volunteers engage in telephone calls; A boat tour travels along what is likely the Chattahoochee River; A group tours the top of Stone Mountain via a cable car; Crowds gather to hear Reverend Jesse Jackson speak; Activists gather near the state capitol in downtown Atlanta to protest the war on drugs, capitalism, and the Ku Klux Klan during the 1988 Democratic National Convention; Picketing signs representing mostly Nationalist Movement messages lay abandoned on the sidewalk; Several shots depict the Atlanta from the Ashes Monument; Activists hold an “AMERICAN INDIAN MOVEMENT” banner that compares 1968 to 1988; A board presents precinct reporting percentages for Democratic presidential candidates; Dukakis supporters gather in downtown Atlanta during an evening parade, likely to celebrate his nomination on July 21, 1988; Tourists pose for photographs in front of the White House and with a replica of the Liberty Bell; The whistling man pictured in the beginning of the film wears a red “JESUS GEORGE” ballcap and points to the sky while standing next to the General Casimir Pulaski statue in Washington, D.C.; President George H.W.
