Abstract
Loosely assembled footage captures the following events: City officials including Mayor Harold Washington and Alderman Eugene Sawyer attend a stage event; Willie Dixon and Koko Taylor perform at the Petrillo Music Shell during the second evening of Taste of Chicago Festival (and in recognition of the city’s sesquicentennial) on June 29, 1987; Director of the Mayor’s Office of Special Events Lois Weisberg poses for photographs next to a cake and delivers a welcome speech for the city’s official 150th birthday party; Mayor Harold Washington joins in the Say No! to Drugs Parade as it proceeds along Dearborn Street on May 9, 1987; Marchers and spectators participate in the 22nd annual Puerto Rican Day Parade as it moves along Dearborn Street on June 13, 1987; Executive Director of the Playboy Foundation and Co-Chair of the Women’s Network for Washington, Rebecca Sive, encourages those at a Daley Center Plaza rally honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to attend then-mayoral candidate Harold Washington’s presentation on equitable compensation for the women’s workforce of Chicago scheduled at Liberty Baptist Church on the following day, January 16, 1983; Demonstrators march against war and the nuclear arms race during the Mother’s Day Peace Festival on May 8, 1983. The film concludes with brief shots of several men as they frequent a shooting range, the A Signal of Peace sculpture located in Lincoln Park, and the former Playboy Building on N. Michigan Avenue.
