Abstract
Loosely assembled footage features interviews conducted with historian Studs Terkel, political consultant Don Rose, and columnist Jon-Henri Damski about Chicago’s “last big machine” politics, the civil rights movement in Chicago, and Mayor Harold Washington’s current administration and his impending 1987 reelection. Shots also capture the following: Edward Vrolyak, Jane Byrne, and Washington deliver speeches and attend rallies for their respective mayoral campaigns; mayoral candidate Thomas Hynes participates in St. Patrick’s Day Parade celebrations; Vrdolyak and Washington join forces to support vice-presidential candidate Geraldine Ferraro at a Mondale/Ferraro campaign rally in Daley Center Plaza on September 19, 1984; presidential candidate Walter Mondale leads a torch-lit evening march along N. Michigan Avenue towards a rally held at Medinah Temple on October 30, 1984.
